A fossil is any preserved remains, impression, or trace of any once-living thing from a past geological age.

I have always been fascinated by fossils and as a child loved visiting the Natural History Museum to explore the exhibits. Over time I have collected a few of my own, variously photographing them in different ways, with different lenses, from different perspectives and under a variety of lighting conditions, always enjoying experimenting.
These are among my favourites as whilst they don’t aim to portray an accurate record, the idea is to create just an impression, much as the fossils themselves leave an impression of what they once were. A few of the images from this project are shown.
For those interested, these images were taken with a Canon 5DS R camera, Canon 1.2L 50mm lens, in my studio under controlled lighting. They were then processed using CaptureOne Pro and converted to monochrome.
