Digital SLR Photography

These 2-hour workshops should appeal to those familiar with using a DSLR digital camera who want to learn how to take more control of their photography, divided into three distinct topic areas.

If you want to learn more about how lens selection, aperture priority, shutter speeds and ISO settings can help you become more creative, this is the course for you. Participants should bring their cameras and any additional lenses with them.

Workshop 1

This session will be spent learning more about aperture: what it means, what it does, how the settings affect how your camera sees the image and what it’s capabilities are. You will learn how to capture more creative images by varying the depth of field using Aperture Priority mode.

Workshop 2

This next session will cover the use of shutter speeds to produce a more creative image. We will look at the effects of various shutter speeds and how to choose the right ones for the right reasons to create the desired effect. We will also look at image noise and how to control it using ISO and when to use flash.

Workshop 3

In this session you will learn how different lenses have different fields of view, which one to select for a particular style of image and why. We will look at filters and other accessories, when and how to make use of them and tips for gaining the best results.

Basic camera skills will be required. Those new to digital photography, unfamiliar with the settings or who are not confident in using their camera are advised to take the Introductory course of workshops first.

£45 per session or book all three for £125.

Maximum six participants per session.

Workshops run on Fridays at Oxheys Mill Studios in Preston - to book, check dates or find out more please contact or call 07973 373657
