Photographing nature, whether outdoors in the landscape or inside in my studio, is a wonderful experience and one which I have enjoyed for over 15 years. Since completing an MA in Fine Art, my practice has been research-based, meaning that the images come from the research rather than the other way around. This means I tend to have specific projects on which I work, sometimes for months or even years before I have a set of images I feel are ready for exhibition or publishing. This keeps me busy but whilst print sales and exhibition fees are always welcome, they alone do not pay the bills.
The second strand to my practice relates to the photography of fine art in a variety of media including paintings, drawings, collage, prints, sculpture, ceramics or installations by other fine artists. This may be either as a record of an exhibition or event, for illustration or publication purposes or by providing high quality digital capture for reproduction of a limited edition of fine art prints which the artist can sell. I also take part in a number of other activities include running workshops, writing articles giving talks and imaging consultancy services along with being an Approved Assessor for the BIPP, an Industry Advisor for Creative Skillset and visiting lecturer. I am also an advisor on image copyright and IP, taking an active role in working groups at government level and other industry bodies. Further details at denise-swanson.com
