I'd had one of those completely unproductive days, the weather wasn't that great but I was so fed up I decided to stop off at Hollingworth Lake, near Rochdale, on the way home. I bought a coffee and just sat down at the edge of the lake and watched a family feeding the ducks with bread. Suddenly gulls seem to arrive from everywhere and a great melee followed. I just grabbed my camera from the back of the car and started shooting, paying no attention to shutter speed at first. With the failing light, the speed was too slow to catch the action or so I thought but once home I went through the images I'd taken and this one struck my eye - it just seemed to work. I cloned out a couple of gull heads that were caught in the frame and cropped it a little.
