An exhibition of my work opened on Saturday at the Visitor Centre at Mere Sands Wood nature reserve in Holmeswood, near Rufford, Lancashire. A selection of work is featured including some signed, numbered and framed limited editions. The images are all local with several having been taken within Mere Sands Wood and are available for purchase with a percentage of the sale price going to the reserve. Subjects include wild flowers, birds and landscapes.

The exhibition is on until June 25th. The Visitor Centre is open daily (except Fridays until May 29th) from 9am til 5pm and over the Bank Holiday weekend I will also be around to talk to visitors, sign prints and will also have available to purchase a selection of cards and small prints. Anyone who comes along and mentions reading about it on my website will receive 10% off any purchase.

Mere Sands Wood is one of the nicest nature reserves in Lancashire - if you haven't been before I can certainly recommend a visit. There is a small car park and several walks through the woodlands and there are a few hides from which you can get some good views of a variety of birds. Over this last weekend, there were grebes and cormorants on the End Mere, with several jays and spotted woodpeckers as well as blackirds and coal tits in the woods. A kingfisher was visible from Lancaster Hide as were lapwings, reed buntings, willow warblers, reed warblers, marsh warblers and corn buntings. On the lake were the usual dabblers, ducks, geese and swans. In early June, the wildflower meadow is a real picture. Mere Sands is a quiet reserve and is an ideal place to visit for some quiet time to get away from it all and enjoy nature.

An SSI site managed by Lancashire Wildlife Trust, it is located on Holmeswood Road near Rufford. Look for a narrow turning on the left if travelling from Rufford towards Burscough, a couple of miles before WWT Martin Mere. From Burscough, it is on the right as you approach Rufford.
