Classic Cars - What a Great Surprise

Sometimes you can really be surprised. It looked like being a nice day and we decided to go out but no doubt fed up with being dragged around nature reserves and the like, my husband was allowed to choose where we should go and he chose a classic car show he'd heard about over in Lytham St.Anne's. Oh great, I thought, not much fun there then but we went and as always, my backpack went in the back of the car as you never know, do you, where you might end up?

We got to the show and I was amazed - the seafront was absolutely full of old Bentley and Rolls Royce cars, many of which were in beautiful condition and had been lovingly restored. They were truly works of art in their own right. My husband was in his element as he has always had an interest in cars, especially vintage ones and he just wandered off looking at them all. It wasn't long before I ran back to the car to get my camera, mounted my favourite 200L lens and ran back and just started taking abstract and close-up images of these gorgeous cars - the chrome bumpers and radiator grills, the wing mirrors, the wheels and the sun reflecting on the bonnets... I was completely absorbed.

I never expected to have as much fun as I did but it was really enjoyable - probably more so as I had not expected it and because it was so far removed from my usual subject matter. I found incredible opportunities for some really creative images and got a collection that i am really pleased with and proud of. My husband was a little puzzled when he looked at the images later as not one actually featured a whole car - they were all abstracts!
